The Perth Woodturner
Natures Crown
This is a desert timber found in the outback of Western Australia. It is a dense, slow growing timber that produces beautiful features in its grain patterns. The burl in which this piece is made from grows on the lower quadrant of the tree, close to its base. It is a tumour like defect that occurs in the life cycle of random trees. These burls produce the highest quality features for custom pieces

Sahara at Midnight
The golden landscape of the Sahara, how would it look at midnight? Calm, relaxed, taking the natural shape nature intended it to be. This piece is about promoting the natural shape of our environments, a soft natural edge is complimented by the smooth outer shape to produce the most natural form. The contrasts between the heart and sapwood remind me of the depth the Sahara Desert contains.

Seduction
The deep rich tones of red that transitions to a pale gold towards the natural edge gives this piece a multi dimensional appearance. The rugged natural edge adds another level of texture which transitions into a smooth body and makes it more appealing to the touch.

The Dividing Line
Marri is a tree that is native to the southwest regions of Western Australia. Marri produces deep natural gum lines with in the growth rings during its life cycle. These gum lines create striking features in the timber that are individual to every piece. The curly feature is created from the annual rings compressing on themselves during the lifecycle of the tree and this produces a waving shimmering effect in the finished product.

The Perth Woodturner
Yorrel Burl decorative piece.
The feature in this piece is incredible, it has the most unusual patterns almost 3D to the eye. This piece was turned fresh and left to dry naturally, the texture is formed as the piece dries. As the water evaporates, the cell structure shrinks and collapses in on itself and this forms its smooth ‘pleasing to the touch’ surface.
